Beer Poking (Bierstacheln)

Beer poking—also known as Bierstacheln—is a centuries-old European beer tradition that transforms your pint in the most dramatic way possible. Using a purpose-made metal poker heated to extreme temperatures, the rod is briefly immersed into the beer, creating an instant reaction.

As the hot metal meets the beer, residual malt sugars caramelize on contact, drawing out deeper malt flavours and subtle sweetness. The result? A warm, gently toasted character with notes reminiscent of marshmallow, caramel, and baked sugar, paired with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel.

Traditionally enjoyed in cooler months and often paired with rich, malty beers like bocks, beer poking offers a unique sensory experience—part theatre, part flavour enhancement, and entirely unforgettable.
